Barry Makariou has recently been awarded Gold for UK Photographer of the year by One Eyeland. For over 15 years he has been specialising in Liquids, and still life and renowned for his creative watch photography. Moving image is also playing large part of his portfolio pleasing content hungry clients. He has built up a fantastic team of collaborators that can provide everything from production, editing , grading, wet hire, retouching and CGI. Barry prides himself in offering an insight into what really goes on behind the scenes and is looking to make this a permeant series on his instagram page with over 3k devoted followers to date.

For over 25 years Barry has been specialising in Liquids and still life and is renowned for bringing together many assets to bring his vision to life. Moving image now plays a large part of Barry’s work. He enjoys making the impossible possible and loves to create immersive films using motion control, special effects rigs and slo mo. ASMR is at the forefront of many of his briefs and he enjoys taking the viewer on a sensory journey.

LIQUIDS

Bubbles was Barry Makariou’s inspiration for forging a path as a liquid photographer. From a young age he was fascinated by bubbles seemingly appear from no where from the bottom of a glass. Working with Liquid is one of the most rewarding element. Every shot is different even though you are working with the same product. The manipulation of liquid is the most intriguing from a creative opportunity. Using specialist equipment for stills and film barry can either freeze a moment in time or take the viewer on a journey through fast frame rate capture. From Soft drinks to Refreshing ciders to Coffee Barry captures the very essence of the product. Barry colloborates with the very best in the industry and can offer effortless production.


SYNCHRONISED

Since his very first 10 page commission for Esquire back in 1998 Barry has been shooting watches ever since. His Award winning Rolex ‘ Impact ‘ image is now world renowned. He’s fulfilled every watch photographers dream in being invited to Switzerland to shoot never before seen Calibers for Jaeger - LeCoultre. He had the pleasure in photographing a unique watch made specially for the Queen!. For the 4th year in a row Barry has been asked to create a concept that will carry 6 collectable front covers for prestigious Synchronised Magazine in collaboration with Men’s Health. This year Barry Collaborated with Vibe CGI Studio and created 6 unique designs for his Neon light backdrops that would be merged with his crisp graphic photography of the watches. This process has been featured in Barry’s ‘ How it’s Made ‘ series proving very popular on social media.


ARARAT BRANDY

After a successful Advertising shoot in Moscow for Chivas I was asked back to shoot a Global Advertising Campaign for Ararat Brandy. I worked with the Ball Parc production company and TBWA to problem solve and come up with solutions on how to shoot the adverts in just over just 2 days.Over 25 people including Production, Agency, Clients, assistants, set designers, food + Drink stylist + post production were on set.

I decided that shooting all the assets separately, bottles and backdrops would give post production better control and the freedom to create the perfect advert. It also allowed me to concentrate on the the bottles outside of the intended environment then add in colour tones and reflections to make sure it all tied in well. All the shots were very technical and needed to be light appropriately to match the light source of the backdrops.

Set 1 included an origin Vista with wooden casket and grapes inside a copper tunnel. Set 2 was to showcase the blended brandy at different stages. Set 3 was to show the most mature bottles in bedded into the tree trunk.


MOUNTAIN DEW STILLS CAMPAIGN

We had to del over 60 shots over 6 days. We Shot every Skew to include Glass, wide bottle, long neck & can. These series where designed to tie in with the moving image part of the project.


Project overview and success of Mountain Dew filming 72 Films over 6 days! Crew of over 25 we managed to average 12 shots per day. With all the footage we created 3 short TVC’s and many stand alone content pieces for Each region.
